How a thermostat works
The cooling system of a modern engine is designed to allow the engine to reach its operating temperature as quickly as possible and then maintain a stable temperature. One of the components responsible for this is a small yet crucial part — the thermostat. If the thermostat stops working correctly, the engine may take too long to warm up, consume more fuel, heat the cabin poorly in winter or, in the worst case, overheat.
