License only for driving cars with automatic transmission

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a resolution introducing a number of innovations concerning the issuance of driver's licenses and admission to driving.

One of the most important is the possibility for a novice motorist to pass the driving test only with “automatic” gearbox. He will receive a numerical note “78” in his driver's license. And he will not be allowed to drive a car with a manual transmission.

Another innovation will be just numerical notes, which will replace the previously existing pictograms. Such notes will be put on the following occasions:

Medical restrictions (glasses, lenses, hearing aids, prosthetic limbs)Vehicle adaptation (modified transmission, manual clutch release, brake system modifications, etc.)Codes to indicate restrictions (driving only during daytime hours, driving only within a certain radius from the place of residence, driving without passengers and others)

In addition, the process of taking examinations is simplified. In case of simultaneous opening of categories, the exam will be taken on the highest of them (except for categories B1, B, BE).

All innovations come into force immediately after the publication of the decree. Except for the part concerning the mark of driving a vehicle only with automatic transmission, which will be implemented within 3 months.
